The Truth About Eating Fat

Article by Paleo Forever

If you’ve been trying to lose weight, chances are you’re of the opinion that you need to eat less fat. This is the mindset of most people in your situation and for good reason: it’s the same, tired line our so called experts always repeat when asked about losing weight. One of the main things, they’ll say, is that you need to get rid of the fat in your diet.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a very good option. For one thing, your body needs fat. In fact, it’s essential and you’ll even feel your mental faculties fatigue if you don’t get enough of it.

But take a look at it through an evolutionary perspective as well. Humans have been eating far more fat than we do now (in terms of percentage of calories) for the vast majority of our existence. Actually, the thinking that fat is bad for us is actually a relatively new idea. As recently as 50 years ago, no one would have considered eggs, for example, an unhealthy meal in the least.

Plus, think of all the healthy food that come wrapped in plenty of fat. Avocados are a great example. So are walnuts and almonds. Seeds tend to have a lot of fat in them, as do amazing types of fish like salmon. If you’re always shy about eating fat, you’ll never get to experience all the benefits they bring.

So consider rethinking fat in your diet. Think about giving up another staple that doesn’t work: complex carbohydrates.
